Why do you think people travel?

28 Nov

That’s a great question!

Just the other day, JJ and I were talking with Mrs. Thigpen – Head of School at Wood Acres – about our upcoming trip around the world.  Mrs. Thigpen told us that she had found a very cool website that she thought we might enjoy.  Well, she was right and we couldn’t have all of the fun, so we’re letting you know all about it!!

The website is by Scholastic – and we’re most interested in the part called “Global Trek” because that’s exactly what JJ and I will be doing – trekking around the world.  Trek is defined in the dictionary as “a long and arduous journey, especially one made on foot”.  Well, our journey will certainly be long, but not too arduous (arduous means difficult and tiring) and of course, we won’t be going on foot!   But, “trek” is close enough, don’t you think?

Anyway, the important point is to look at the cool website:

Here are some of the things that JJ and I thought were fun about Global Trek:

  1. You can write a Travel Journal (almost like our blog) about our trip on the website.
  2. You can learn some interesting facts about the countries that we’ll be visiting.
  3. You can learn about the people of the countries that we’ll be visiting.
  4. You can see some photos from the countries that we’ll be visiting.
  5. The Map Man has a great game.
  6. You’ll be really smart when you finish reading all of this information!!

Right on the first page of the website are two very good questions  —

Why do you think people travel?

What are some benefits of seeing the world?

Write down your answers to those questions today.  Share the answers with your Teacher and your Mom and Dad.  That will be fun!!

Make sure that your Mom or Dad or your Teacher say it is OK for you to get onto the Global Trek website!!

Come on . . . Join the Excitement!

Today we are down to only

60 days

until JJ and I leave to go to New York City to meet our ship, the Queen Mary 2.  Wow!  Time is really going by really fast!  Pretty soon it will be Thanksgiving and then we’ll be getting ready for Christmas!  It won’t be long before you’ll be missing me while I’m gone on my World Cruise.

We’re getting really excited about our trip.  JJ and I have been researching all kinds of cool stuff to add to this Travel Blog as we travel along.

If I don’t get a chance to post another entry before Thanksgiving, I want to wish you and your family a really Happy Thanksgiving!  Don’t eat too much and enjoy being with your family!!
